V.W. Bro. Bruce Smith DGIW

Born in Tenterfield 23rd June 1959

Grew up on a farm just north of Tenterfield in an area called Leech’s Gully.

Went to school at the Tenterfield primary and high schools

Was successful in gaining an apprenticeship as an Electrical Fitter / Mechanic at Riverstone Meat Works just north of Tenterfield.

In 1978 became part of the newly formed Tenterfield SES Rescue squad.

Joined Freemasonry as a member of Lodge Tenterfield No55 in 1981

After finishing my apprenticeship 1981 worked as an electrician at a number of abattoirs including Northern Co-Op Meats at Casino and Australia Meat Holding at Guyra Progressing to the position of Chief Engineer.

Married Annette in 1988

Became Worshipful Master of Lodge Tenterfield 1992

In 1992 affiliated with Lodge Guyra

Became Worshipful Master of Lodge Guyra 1993

Was Awarded the National Medal For Service May 1993 For commitment and training  to the NSW State Emergency Service 1993 Received 15 year Long Service Award From State Emergency Service. 1993

In 1997 received a phone call form a fellow freemason offering me  the position of Maintenance Manager for Sunnybrand Chickens, to which I accepted and truly grateful, then moved to Ocean Shores to a much warmer climate.

Received 20 year Long Service Award from the NSW State Emergency Service.

Became a Member of Lodge Cavanbah (Byron Bay)

Became Worshipful Master of Lodge Cavanbah 2006

Joined the Tweed Hospital Maintenance & Engineering department 2006

Become A Grand Stewart and the United  Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT. 2009 to 2014.

Affiliated with Lodge Dawn 511 at Tweed Heads.

Grand Steward appointed as Grand Director of Ceremonies July 2010 ( Continuing) with in excess of fifty appointments to date.

2012 Rewrote the Grand Steward / Grand Director Training manual and ran training at the Ballina Masonic Centre with seventeen participants from Port Macquarie to the border.

2013 Presented with a NSW Health Quality Award for using new technology to improve the quality of air within  the Tweed Hospital using high output ultraviolet light to eradicate bacteria within the air handling systems.

Nominated in April 2014 for the position of District Grand Inspector of workings for the two year period commencing September 2014.

Patron of Tweed Hospital Auxiliary

Seconded to NSW Health Northern NSW Local Health District Area |Capital Works as Senior Project Officer.
